Outpatient rehab (often referred to as "IOP" standing for Intensive Outpatient Program) is our treatment program for men and women do not live in our housing facilities.

Outpatient Treatment - A "Step Down" from Residential Treatment

Our outpatient drug treatment program in the Newport Beach/Costa Mesa area is very popular with our clients who have completed higher levels of care (either at our facility or a similar treatment center).   In some instances, a man or woman may enter the outpatient program directly, perhaps due to a legal matter or a relapse after an extended length of sobriety.

A Positive and Energetic Group of People Recovering Together

The outpatient program is filled with people of all ages who meet daily to strengthen their foundation for a life free of drugs and alcohol.

Our many years of experience and expert clinical staff will do an  initial screening and assessment to verify that you are in the proper level of care, and then there will be a daily routine of

  • Individual and group counseling
  • Process Groups for self esteem and relapse prevention
  • 12-Step Workshops
  • Specialized lectures designed to fit the needs of adults dealing with addiction Women in Group Therapy
  • Creative Cultural Speakers and Events

Our staff will design an individualized treatment program just for you based on your history and needs. We will look at you as a whole person and address things like your gender, cultural background, family system, and values. We have helped many thousands of individuals who were very physically and psychologically addicted to prescription medication or alcohol begin a wonderful life free from addiction. We are certain that we can design a treatment program that will give you the best chance of recovery.

Clients in the IOP program will be monitored for progress and be screened for drug/alcohol use every 72 hours.

A Message from The Director of Outpatient Services:

Kim Simmons IOP"I am dedicated to making the outpatient program a very safe and clinically effective place for men and women to come each day.  We have had great results in our night program by using the time to really dig in deep to identify and address the participants' issues that are contributing to their substance misuse.  Sometimes, people can surprise themselves with what they are capable of during our counseling sessions, lectures, and workshops.

We foster a team environment and there is a continuously evolving group dynamic in our program  that witnesses the  newcomer turning into a group elder. Some of the men and women who come in with the most doubt and fear turn into the leaders of the group with the most confidence.  The sense of community and togetherness is seamless as some enter and others complete the outpatient program

Every member of our outpatient group will be encouraged to share and contribute as much as they feel comfortable doing.  For some, we will push the limits of their comfort when it is appropriate.  We do not tolerate participants who hinder the process or compromise the sense of security and trust we have created here. "

Legal Issues

Intensive Outpatient Program (IOP) clients are required to attend sessions at our treatment facility in addition to outside 12-Step meetings. If there are legal issues, our staff of legal experts can provide:

  • Court Progress Reports
  • Treatment Updates
  • Letters of Completion
  • Drug Test Results

Our staff will work directly with the courts and your attorney. Not only will Sober Living by the Sea provide all of these services and the corresponding documentation, but the recovering man or woman will receive an empowering education on addiction and the underlying issues that lead to substance abuse and chemical dependence.

Clients who participate in our outpatient rehab program will benefit from our 20-plus years of building relationships with therapists in the Orange County and Southern California area. We may recommend that additional treatment occur with a clinical professional who has special training for a client's specific issues.
