California Treatment Center for Adderall Abuse
Adderall is a stimulant that is habit forming. Many who become addicted to Adderall and other drugs require treatment like that offered at our drug rehab to stop abusing it.
Sober Living by the Sea has specialized treatment programs to address
the abuse of prescription drugs like Adderall. Our staff is aware of
the unique emotions and behaviors exhibited by men and women who arrive
in our treatment center physically and mentally addicted to drugs like Ritalin, Adderall, and other amphetamines.
Because of our experience and location, our treatment center has
achieved high success rates, allowing us to create an enjoyable
environment for men and women to learn how to have fun in sobriety.
The frequency of prescription drug addiction we are seeing in our facility is on the rise, resulting in an alarming "silent epidemic." In response, we have adapted our addiction treatment program to better help men and women who are abusing prescription drugs like Adderall.
Our Approach to Treating Adderall Addiction
More and more clients arrive at our drug rehab center addicted to drugs like Adderall, speed, ecstasy, cocaine, and other stimulants/amphetamines. These men and women have different needs than our clients who abuse alcohol or use mainly depressants (like marijuana, heroin, vicodin, or oxycontin).
People who have become mentally and physically dependent on prescription drugs like Adderall are often prone to denial. In many cases, prescription drug users have been prescribed the drug (for a condition like Attention-Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder, or ADHD). Though these conditions often justify the use of drugs like Adderall, the consequences of being addicted to a prescription drug can be just as serious as being addicted to a street drug.
We have noticed that amphetamine or "upper" abusers often feel confused and overwhelmed in early sobriety. Adderall abusers may experience depression and seem despondent and hopeless about their chances of living a normal life without the medication they have become dependent on. Sober Living by the Sea uses one-on-one counseling sessions and performs frequent assessments of the client's progress in order to design the most supportive treatment program possible and give the client the best chance at recovering from chemical dependency.
Our addiction clinicians are also trained and experienced in the treatment of dual diagnosis, or "co-occurring" disorders. Our psychiatrist and therapists have the ability to assess our clients thoroughly to identify behavioral or mood disorders like ADHD, depression, PTSD, depression, and others. Once properly identified, our clinical staff makes sure that the appropriate level of care is provided for the chemical dependency as well as the co-occurring disorder. This includes:
- monitored distribution of the appropriate medication
- ongoing psychiatric evaluations
- attendance at special workshops to learn how to cope with the dual diagnosis
Adderall - One of Many Prescription Drugs Being Abused
The field of medicine has been effective at developing psychoactive drugs like Adderall to help people who suffer from conditions like narcolepsy and ADHD. Most people who are prescribed these drugs can use them responsibly and effectively. Others become addicted to the substances, and still others misuse these drugs without ever having been prescribed them.
In the past decade we've seen an increase in young people arriving for treatment who have become physically and mentally dependent on prescription drugs like Adderall. Adderall may seem less sinister than drugs like oxycontin, vicodin, percocet, and opioids, but we feel that it is an alarming trend. Not only is the abuse of Adderall harmful to the user physically and mentally, but it can lead to the use of drugs like ecstasy and crystal methamphetamine, which can cause irreparable damage (even death) in as little as one dose.
More About Adderall
Adderall is a brand name psycho-stimulant which is comprised of amphetamine salts. Adderall is prescribed to people who suffer from ADHD, ADD, and narcolepsy because it increases alertness and concentration.
Adderall is administered orally in tablet or capsule form in a variety of dosages, though it is sometimes taken nasally by people who are abusing it. Adderall, which has been used since 1996, is controversial because it is often prescribed to adolescents and children and can foster physical and mental dependence.
