Our long term residential treatment program was created so that recovering individuals can thrive in our treatment community located in Newport Beach. This is where the "real world" meets a safe and monitored treatment environment.

Surf, Sand, Sun, and a New Outlook on Life

Recovering individuals in our long term program integrate back into society with plenty of supervision and support.  The program is for women and men who are of adult age and many teens take advantage of the college continuation program we offer called the T.E.A.C.H. Program.

Clients in our extended care program live in gender specific houses and will be drug/alcohol tested every 72 hours. The men and women enjoy the freedom of being able to ride their beach cruiser to participate in the recovery program that our clinical staff has designed for them.

All treatment happens within our campus on the Newport Beach peninsula (Coastal Orange County, CA). Our campus is one of the most popular destinations for treatment and recovery in the world and the best doctors, therapists, and addiction professionals have gathered to practice with us in Newport Beach. A VIDEO REVIEW OF OUR EXTENDED CARE PROGRAM:

Extended Length of Care Provides Most Effective Addiction Treatment

The greatest indicator of long-term sobriety is time spent living in a supportive and structured environment. Some of our clients need to be in a highly structured primary care program for the first 30 to 60 days of treatment, and Sober Living by the Sea has several gender specific treatment options (you can see an overview of all our treatment programs here).

We have found that individuals have the greatest opportunity to transition back into society without slipping back into substance abuse when they participate in our long term extended care program and are given a personalized treatment curriculum based on our assessment.

A Healthy and Esteem Building Lifestyle of Recovery and Growth

Our extended care clients are housed in our safe and clean apartments in Newport Beach and are highly supervised by their house "parent." They will literally be working toward recovery around the clock with constant:

  • recovery lectures
  • addiction workshops
  • one-on-one counseling sessions
  • group therapy
  • 12-Step Recovery Meetings
  • family groups (weekly and monthly)

Activities With Ian Chamberlain - Our Activities Director

There is only so much information and therapeutic processing a person can do while they are in recovery. Our treatment model is very successful with many individuals because we also provide opportunities every day for the clients to have fun and be active in recovery. This allows the clients to balance the stress that comes from working with counselors in the clinical setting.

Our location right on the beach in Southern California allows us to offer a wide variety of fun activities for both fitness and also to help our clients build fellowship and learn how to "have fun in sobriety."

Ian Chamberlain is our Activities Director who designs the activity calendar and facilitates the activities.  Ian has been working with men and women in treatment for many years. When asked about the many ways the activities facilitate recovery, he replies that they:

  • Help the client to find healthy means to satisfy the needs previously met through the use of drugs/alcohol
  • Increase the chance to experience fun, pleasure and to feel in control of their lives
  • Teach new ways to relieve stress and anxiety
  • Offer an avenue for developing stress management, social skills, leisure education, assertiveness and coping skills
  • Facilitate new learning related to social and free time choices
  • Expose clients to leisure alternatives in the community
  • Provide increased structure, allowing choice within restrictions
  • Increase social functioning and self-confidence
  • Develop social support network
  • Enhance basic communication skills
  • Alleviate boredom (the #1 trigger for relapse)
  • Increase problem solving and decision making skills
  • Practice self-care and self-acceptance
  • Develop communication, self control and trusting relationships
  • Enhance independent functioning and physical well-being
  • Focus on detoxification and client’s physical needs
