SLBTS Goes to the Improv for Comedy
Staffer Chris Swanberg takes the clients to a fun outing - The Improv.
In my 2 weeks shy of 10 years tenor here at Sober Living by the Sea, it was the first time we went to the Improv to enjoy a night of food, comedy and fun.
It started off as an idea and within five days it became a reality. We got tickets and were on our way. The outing was a reward for those
- working their recovery program (with a sponsor)
- working the 12 steps
- not receiving any write-ups.
Those of you who have been here know what I’m talking about. Other words, "suitin’ up and showin’ up."
It started off with bottomless fountain drinks then followed by a nice house salad. I had the Asiago Crusted Chicken with asparagus and garlic mashed potatoes. The were several other entrée’s to choose from.
We had seats 1 row up from the center stage. They were great seats. I go there quite a bit early and it’s where I prefer to sit. You can see the whites of their eyes. Todd Glass was the main entertainer and he was pretty good. He started to pick on one of the guys who were right in front of him. It was such a crack up! Everyone was laughing.
You can have fun in sobriety. Once you build that initial foundation for recovery, you can go anywhere "normal" people go. I hope we do this again. A night of fun, comedy and sobriety. A great mixture.
