It is Not Us Against You
It is not us against ANYONE. Staff member Kelly K thinks about what it is like for our clients when they are being told what they might not want to hear.
What we try to do is identify and then document a possible pattern that may be detrimental to someone’s recovery. Once it is documented, the case manager (with the clinical team) decides the best action to take for the well being of the client.
We are not here to co-sign a high risk lifestyle (or even low risk).
The key is to open up a line of communication that is comfortable and safe. We are going to be making several suggestions when people come to stay with us.
Ultimately, when you leave us, its your decision what direction your life is going to take.
It is our approach as teachers and communicators that may influence you to utilize the directions given while you are here when you have left us and are on your own.
Communication Skills
That is why our communication skills must be finely tuned. Men and women who have become addicted to alcohol or drugs are very sensitive, often intelligent people. Addicts and alcoholics know when people are being controlling or insensitive.
The communication skills at a world renown treatment center must be progressive and intelligent. When you are dealing with peoples' lives having strong communication skills may make all the difference.
At Sober Living by the Sea we are willing to tell you the truth.People do not come to our program because one day they woke up and decided to check themselves into treatment to do some social networking.
Most come to us with their lives in a state of emergency and we understand that.
It’s true that sometimes the truth hurts. But it doesn’t have to hurt you alone or with people that don’t understand
At Sober Living by the Sea we teach with patience, tolerance and love. We are sometimes firm but always fair. We understand that our approach with every communication may be the difference between whether somebody stays clean and sober. This could very well be the difference between life and death.
