ACT Your Way into Right Thinking - Recovery Program Wisdom
Our treatment center staffer brings some of his wisdom about "acting" your way into right thinking in a program of recovery... as opposed to "thinking" your way into right thinking.
Act your way into right thinking, as opposed to "thinking" your
way into right thinking!
At Sober Living by the Sea treatment centers, even a typical Monday is carefully coordinated (as is
the rest of the week), to start with action and end with action. The result (over time) is changed thinking. These actions are intertwined with workshops and therapeutic processes all set in a vibrant recovery community in Southern California. The combination of treatment program and beautiful setting has
proven over and over again (since 1986) to be an excellent recipe.
A typical Monday schedule for our extended care program is:
7:00am to 8:00am – wake up with morning meditation
8:00am to 9:30am – breakfast and chores
9:00am to 10:00am – process group with case managers
10:15am to 11:00am – topic lecture
11:15am to 12:00am – phase group (or Celebrate Recovery Meeting/Beach Meeting)
12:15pm to 1:00pm – Lunch
1:15pm to 4:30pm – scheduled recovery activity (ie. movies, gym, yoga, etc.)
4:30pm to 6:00pm – free Time – go to the beach or go shopping
6:00pm to 6:45pm – house dinner
7:00pm to 9:15pm – book study and or musicians meeting
10:00pm – curfew
11:00pm – lights out
We suggest other things should be mixed into the daily schedule as well: such as getting a sponsor and taking
direction from them (more action).
Self Esteem is Obtained by Doing Estimable Acts
The days at our treatment facility are strategically balanced to provide attraction to the program of recovery and action steps to move toward a successful recovery.
The goal is to entice the individual to give recovery a chance - one day at a time. The environment is controlled and supportive. Clients at our treatment center are allowed to step down their care gradually while still living in a recovery community. Clients who are in treatment are kept accountable with alcohol and drug testing. We also have doctors and therapist available to all clients.
We all agree in most cases developing a routine of action is most
instrumental in achieving true peace of mind.
The Goal - A Change in Attitude and outlook
The goal of our treatment center is to help our clients eventually complete a psychic change. The process is so much deeper then just not drinking (or using drugs).
It is hard to explain the natural euphoria that is accessible by addicts and alcoholics through contrary action. We hope to get the men and women suffering from addiction and show them a life better than they could have imagined. The attraction keeps their mind open and the action helps them change their thinking permanently.
What has been the occasional inspiration will gradually become a working
part of the mind.
Let’s act our way into right thinking - together!
