A Vicodin Ban on the Horizon?
We've written many times about the dangers of Vicodin and prescription drugs in general. There are some good reasons to recommend the ban of Vicodin and this blog entry discusses some of them.
A Vicodin Ban on the Horizon?
A review of the facts about Vicodin addiction::
1. People who use Vicodin for more than couple of weeks will develop a physical dependency and a tolerance to the effects of the drug
2. People who develop a Vicodin tolerance will need to take ever greater quantities of the medication to achieve the same analgesia (or euphoria)
3. People who take high doses of Vicodin run a serious risk of liver damage due to Vicodin abuse
Because of the dangers inherent in Vicodin, an FDA advisory panel voted in June 2009 to recommend a ban on both Vicodin and Percocet (another opiate that mixes in acetaminophen). The FDA is not required to heed the recommendations of advisory panels, but it usually does.
Vicodin may soon be pulled from the shelf, but until it is, those that use it need to take care not to exceed the daily acetaminophen maximums.
