Report: "Baby Boomers Still Using Drugs"

Our treatment centers has recognized the unique needs of the different genders and ages of our clients. It is no surprise to us that mature adults are abusing drugs and alcohol because many of them come to the Reflections Program for Mature Adults in Newport Beach to treatment and learn how to live life sober (and love it)

The US Substance Abuse and Mental Health Services Administration has released findings showing that people who are aged 50 to 59 are twice as likely to use illicit drugs in 2007 than in 2002.  All other age groups that were surveyed showed a decrease in drug abuse.

The generation that was inspired by the Summer of Love and Woodstock have been known to march to the beat of their own drum and were very open minded in adopting attitudes of acceptance about many illegal drugs (particularly marijuana).

There are a lot of positive things that have come out of the attitudes of Baby Boomers but one unfortunate side effect is that some people who experiment with drugs become addicted to them and struggle with it for their whole lives.  Many people who are in their 40s, 50s, 60s, and 70s have come to Sober Living by the Sea to take advantage of our Reflections Program for Mature Adults.

The Reflections Program was designed to honor and respect the unique needs that mature adults bring to the treatment process.  Often we have found that mature adults are very motivated and respond well to supportive and caring treatment.  We have also found that mature adults can be very hard on themselves and benefit from being taught to forgive themselves for their drug or alcohol abuse and the resulting consequences.  Another thing about mature adults is that they are often very dedicated to the program of recovery and are very accountable to the recommended activities, homework assignments, and treatment processes.

We are proud to contemplate that such an amazing generation has brought such sweeping change into our society, and we are even more happy to think that we can help a few of the Baby Boomers who have strayed from the path of responsible drug use and are in need of help from our drug treatment center.
