Percocet Addiction Treatment in Southern CA

Percocet addiction is part of the growing and frightening wave of prescription drug addiction that is occurring in the United States as well as around the world. We feel that the oxycodone-based drugs like Percocet and Percodan are particularly dangerous because of their addictive qualities and the potential for accidental prescription drug overdose.

Be sure to take our prescription drug addiction quiz to learn more about the symptoms of prescription drug abuse and addiction.

Percocet and Percodan are both oxycodone-based pharmaceutical drugs that are prescribed to manage pain. Percocet is oxycodone mixed with acetaminophen (Tylenol), and percodan is oxycodone mixed with aspirin. These narcotic painkillers have become popular in the medical field because of their ability to effectively reduce severe, acute pain (commonly for post-operative pain symptoms). But the price that society has paid is a dear one – thousands of lives ruined because of the addictive potential of Percocet and Percodan.

A Brief History of Percocet Abuse

Percocet is actually one manufacturer’s brand name for oxycodone and acetaminophen. It is also sold under the following brand names:

  • Tylox
  • Endocet
  • Magnacet
  • Narvox
  • Roxicet

Oxycodone, which is the active addictive ingredient in Percocet, was originally developed as a "less addictive" version of heroin and morphine. Percocet and Percodan are also somewhat less addictive than purer combinations of oxycodone (like Oxycontin because of the presence of aspirin or acetaminophen. Since the mid-90s, there have been increasingly more potent versions of these drugs manufactured for use in the U.S. and worldwide, which has resulted in a spike in the number of clients who arrive here in Orange County that are physically and mentally addicted to Percocet and Percodan.

Casual and Legal Use of Percocet Can Become Abuse and Then Addiction

As with all chemical dependencies, there is a gradual evolution in the user's level of mental and physical addiction to the substance being abused. People who are legally and appropriately using Percocet and Percodan to treat their pain symptoms can eventually become physically and psychologically addicted because the drugs reduce pain and relax both the body and mind.

In our 23 years of designing and implementing rehab programs for men and women who have been turned into addicts and alcoholics because of their bio-psycho-social reaction to alcohol and drugs, we have developed a comprehensive approach to treating men and women who are addicted to Percocet or Percodan. We feel that the emergence of oxycodone-based painkillers has been such a dangerous phenomenon because of three factors:

1) They are often legally prescribed by trusted physicians.
2) They have highly addictive properties.
3) Their use is accompanied by potentially fatal results (especially if combined with alcohol).

Specialized and Effective Treatment Programs for Percocet Addiction

We have been continuously learning about the latest developments in drug and alcohol addiction treatment for the past 23 years here in Orange County, California. Our addiction treatment experts have identified the unique challenges Percocet users bring to our rehab programs in Newport Beach, CA. The treatment program we design after completing an assessment of the person in need of treatment will be personalized to reflect the needs of that particular individual.

Users of oxycodone-based drugs like Percocet and Percodan are often in denial of the addiction and the harm it is causing to themselves and their loved ones. If you have a loved one who you suspect is abusing Percocet, please read the section of our website that has advice for the families of drug addicts, and also read our page about what to say to a loved one who is addicted to drugs.

The Percocet-addicted individual may require a medically supervised detoxification and may benefit greatly from our "rapid" Suboxone drug detoxification process (a detox assisted through the use of buprenorphine or Suboxone).

Percocet addiction is just as serious and potentially deadly as any other illegal "street" drug. We have found that the 12-Step-based recovery program we utilize for alcoholic drinkers and illicit drug abusers will also work for those who are chemically dependent on Percocet. We have also found that many recovering Percocet-dependent individuals will be tempted to relapse and may suffer from depression in their early abstinence. Our treatment team is trained to identify these types of complications and address those complications quickly as they arise.
