For our clients who may benefit from an outdoor/wilderness recovery program and are between the ages of 18-28, we have found that the Four Circles Recovery Center offers a highly effective Wilderness Recovery Program for young adults.

4circles.jpgFour Circles is a good destination for young men and women who are interested in actively pursuing sobriety while confronting the underlying issues that drive their substance abuse.

Four Circles is an outdoor-based licensed chemical dependency treatment program that utilizes proven and effective treatment processes to arrest substance abuse and address co-occurring disorders. Through Four Circles’ use of traditional counseling and wilderness therapy, participants are encouraged to use the program’s powerful therapeutic tools to explore their issues and begin a journey toward healthy self-expression.

Four Circles offers gender-specific treatment for young men and women, with separate programs designed to meet the specific needs of each gender. The men’s program focuses on issues specific to men growing up in today’s world, with an emphasis on adventure and experiential learning. The women’s program addresses the issues facing young women in recovery in the comfort and safety of a caring and esteem-building environment.

Addressing the Physical Component of Recovery

Four Circles makes physical activity a requirement in its recovery program for all young adults as part of its holistic approach to chemical dependency recovery. As a therapeutic wilderness program, the young men and women at Four Circles participate in expeditions up to two weeks at a time. The young adults hike, camp, and learn to do so comfortably and safely. Four Circles uses modern field gear including tents, backpacks, seasonally rated sleeping bags, and other gear that will keep participants comfortable. The program also provides nutritional education and follows a sound environmental policy that teaches participants to "Leave No Trace."

Addressing the Spiritual Component of Recovery

Four Circles does not endorse any particular religion but encourages each client to develop and enhance their belief system. The process of participating in an outdoor-based recovery program is conducive to men and women developing a spiritual center, as nature’s beauty is both awe-inspiring and humbling at the same time. Some of Four Circles’ spiritual activities include:

  • 12-step work
  • journaling
  • rites of passage
  • meditation
  • martial arts

Addressing the Emotional Component of Recovery

Addressing emotional issues to foster growth and balance is critically important for a successful recovery. Four Circles has a comprehensive recovery workbook that will help participants gain insight into their emotional recovery process. Every young adult gets an individualized treatment plan, as well as individual and group therapy both at base camp and in the wilderness.
